Being someone who has lived next to Golden most of my life I know a few things about Golden, CO. But I can tell you despite that, I'm still in awe in how Golden has grown since I was a kid. As some may know Golden, Colorado is the headquarters and main facilities of Coors (the beer). I personally hate Coors and have since I was a kid. Although I do remember hearing stories about Golden and their famous brewery there. At one point back when my Father was a kid, his Dad (my Grandfather) would visit Colorado from Louisanna and purchase as much Coors as he could and bring back home.
The beer was so popular back then that to get it beyond the Mississippi River was a rare situation. I literally have seen Coors beer in Japan at small little liquor stores. Golden is a great example of how one can start small and shoot off into space! Being a business owner I'm always very interested in what is happening with local businesses especially since I own a business in Golden, Colorado.
I remember when I was a kid when the Mills (a mall) was built. It was HUGE!! Of course to us in Colorado were amazed by it. The other day I went to the Mills with my cousin that lives out of State and I walked around it. I've not been there for many many years and it's the point where it's one of those run-down malls as the internet is practically killing off physical store locations. I wasn't impressed at all. But at one point this mall was the bee's knees and despite it no longer being so I still give it credit as it still rocks a crowd at times, but then again most malls will during holidays and what not.
Now what is interesting is there is a brewery business called Golden City Brewery and their claim is they are the 2nd largest brewery in Golden, and although there are other breweries there now, the funny part about that is they are a tiny little brewery house next to a giant corporation. Now their beer is wonderful, but as you can see you can have crap products but if you know how to market yourself and your business you can literally be everywhere!
So I find it interesting that we can watch something rise to the occasion and then slowly fizz out over time and then there is a business in Golden that's been there since the 1800s that has continued to reach higher heights, then there are superior products which I give them credit they are getting bigger and bigger, but it took a very long time to get there. Just because you have a better product or a large place of business doesn't mean you'll win the day when it comes to a successful business.
I suppose Golden can teach us a few lessons from the businesses that reside there. Besides these two places of businesses, Golden has continued to grow over the years. It's quite a transformation from when I remember it as a kid, it still has that small-town feeling which is great and you certainly can get into the mood of the Goldrush of past times.
If you get a chance to be sure to visit Golden!
